Cirque de Navacelles

"Grand Site de France"

Labelled 15th "Grand Site de France" in 2017, the Cirque de Navacelles is a geological curiosity nestled in the heart of the Vis gorges. With a depth of 300 metres, it results from the abandonment of a meander of the Vis 6000 years ago. The Vis canyon, more than 2km wide, dry or in water, shelters the spectacular resurgence of the Vis aux Moulins de la Foux and a protected biodiversity: the Orchis Fragrances orchid, the golden eagle, the European otter...
The southern Causses that surround it are punctuated by megaliths, huge squares with dry stone drains and enclosures, lavognes... Testimonies of the millenary agropastoral activity, they are recognized as World Heritage of Humanity as part of the living cultural landscapes of Mediterranean agropastoralism of the Bien Causses and Cévennes. These landscapes are home to a rich and varied terroir, whose passionate producers are delighted to share their products with you in the two site houses: Baume Auriol and the belvederes of Blandas. They also offer scenographic spaces, tourist information and interpretive routes with playful tools for discovery (model, long panoramic view, digital tablet...).
